Sunrise sheds light, literally and figuratively, on what your character has just done. Let them soak in the situation as they soak in the first sun rays of the morning. How do they feel?
Is there regret she stayed up all night waiting for a man who never came back? Is he prepared to face the rest of his life with the pile of broken bottles and alcohol-soaked soil behind him? Or heck, get morbid – sure, the stiff is buried but what are these two going to do with the shovels?!
Give this exercise fifteen minutes of your time. If you can time it to coincide with sunrise today or the next, so much the better.
Write it up and see what happens.
