Caught My Eye #4

Today’s edition of “Caught My Eye” has an accidental theme: NERDS! Well, #1-4 are nerd-themed, #5 is about parenting. You know what? Nerds parent, too, so just go with it. Here’s what caught my eye this week. What do you think? What caught your eye? Leave a note in the comments. 1. Children Are (or … Read more

Caught My EyeLots of great stuff this week!
1. Girls + Science = Awesome.
A young woman in 7th grade named Melody Green did a science project experiment on the effects of air pressure and temperature on altitude. Obviously, this means there should be a homemade “rocket” with Hello Kitty as the pilot, all filmed by four GoPro cameras. I love science, I love young women who achieve amazing things, and I think I am slowly falling in love with the GoPro camera and cameras like it. Watch this video and tell me you don’t want to do everything in your power to either empower more young women to do something wonderful (or at the very least, merely create no barrier to them).

2. I Found Two Trees for the Price of One.
After I saw this “Poetree” (Poet + Tree = Poetree) on funny list of the 30 Most ‘Portland’ Things That have Ever Happened in Portland as #23…

…I thought it was brilliant and want to make one, too. I wondered if anyone else has done this and if there are tips on making one – surely such a genius idea cannot only be nailed to one tree in Portland – and in Google image searching “poetree” I came across the

Caught My Eye
Here are five items that caught my eye this week. What caught yours?
1. David Seah made a trading card out of his sketch. I’ve subscribed to David Seah’s blog for years for a few years now and appreciate his take on creativity and entrepreneurship. Take a look at his categories list and you’ll see he is truly a mosaic when it comes to writing about his various interests and passions.
This week, he took an old sketch of a spaceship he drew when he was a young man and turned it into a trading card.

Caught My Eye
Here’s this week’s list of five items that caught my eye. I hope one or more catch yours, too:
1. Brooklyn-based band Body Language released a new EP, Grammar, and the download is absolutely free. I saw them open for Zero 7 back in 2009 and was very impressed. Can’t get their player to embed, sorry, so you’ll have to click-thru to experience their eclectic mix of electronic-pop-rock-funk-jazz-soulful delight.

2. I’m a big fan of Paul F. Tompkins and here he is with Maya Rudolph singing a cover of “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros at the

"Caught My Eye" Begins Tomorrow.

Caught My Eye
Tomorrow sees the start of “Caught My Eye.” Right now, the intention is for the feature to be three things:

  • A weekly feature at The Life Mosaic.
  • Five items I experienced over the week and want to share.
  • A space to offer your thoughts and share your own items.

This may fluctuate in the future but for now, anticipate the above recipe.
Social media has been an excellent way to share new ideas, innovative designs, moving art and writing, and fun stuff that’s just plain awesome. Friends are great about posting links to interesting articles and blog posts or the latest funny video of the week and these can become a nice addition to one’s facebook | twitter | rss feed. For me, I often find myself bookmarking the things passed along to me which catch my attention the most, make me think or feel the most. I’ve decided to make The Life Mosaic a new way to bookmark these items as well as pass them along to readers who might be interested, too.
Each week, likely on Thursdays, I’ll put up a post with (at least) five items which caught my eye. They may be
